This recently acquired photograph is a historic and nostalgic addition to our ever-expanding post office archive.
It depicts the post office at Rindge in New Hampshire. Note the post office directly above the lady in the long dress. Was she the postmistress? It is quite likely. Women are often portrayed at this period near the entrance to the post office. It seems the building also operated as general store, judging by the goods displayed near the entrance. The proprietor’s name appears to be W. Wembry. Such an interesting name in an equally unusual place name may well be of interest to genealogists and family historians. The gentleman with his horse and buggy certainly adds charm to the peaceful and picturesque surroundings…
