The island of Guam, formerly administered as part of the Spanish Philippine Islands, was occupied by American troops in 1899 during the Spanish-American War.
United States stamps overprinted GUAM were introduced in 1899 and remained in use until 29 March 1901, when the island was annexed to the United States and ordinary American stamp were issued instead.
