The space age started with the Russian’s out doing the United States and being a kid of that age and feeling in the USA made me curious as well as afraid what could happen. I remember on the TODAY Show had interupted news to tell the world there was a new man made object or satellite in the heavens, and they had a recording of the beep beep of the object. Frightened as we were in the USA for we thought Russia would be raining down other things from the ski and making our world different and hellish. Being curious about this new tech, and how they did all this made me anxious to watch the newspapers, news and anything about space. But as I look back and have many of the Soviet space stamps in my collection, I am thankful at times for all that has happened. We stamp collectors have a wonderful avenue to work in, and see history in a non linear form of a hobby. We see the beauty of it, what it meant to us, and again a chance to wonder what we were doing in 1960
