On occasion of the 50th anniversary of The Spanish Federation of Philatelic Societies (FESOFI) a commemorative stamp is issued depicting the logo of the 50th anniversary together with the logo of FESOFI and the caption 1963 -2013.
The first attempt to create a philatelic society and bring together philatelic enthusiasts, traders, and magazines emerged around 1870. In the 20 century, coinciding with the first congress and philatelic exhibitions held in Spain new steps were taken to try to form a federation which did not come about till later years and after overcoming numerous administrative procedures.
Finally, in 1963 the creation of the Spanish Federation of Philatelic Societies was approved. In its foundation rules it is declared that the aim of the Federation is to: Group the Philatelic Associations voluntarily adhered to it in order to promote, develop and ensure the maximum expansion of philately and postal stamps, maintain and strengthen relationships between philatelists and collaborate with national and international associations. It is a member of the International Federation of Philately (FIP).
Currently, FESOFI groups together over two hundred philatelic societies from all over Spain which are organised in hierarchical pyramidal clubs, such as: local associations, regional associations and the national federation.
Throughout these 50 years FESOFI has contributed to the development and promotion of philately in all areas. In collaboration with Correos, it organizes national and international exhibitions including Exfilna, Juvenia and world exhibitions. It also publishes books and magazines on philately and postal history.
