Russian Post issued a souvenir sheet to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the victory of the allied armies in the Battle of Leipzig.
Battle of Leipzig (Battle of Nations) – October 16-19, 1813 – was the largest battle of the Napoleonic Wars, in which Napoleon’s army was defeated by the allied Russian, Austrian, Prussian and Swedish troops.
Russian and Prussian troops who bore the brunt of the battle, played major role in achieving full military success at Leipzig.
The souvenir sheet illustrates the picture by KarlRechlin “Attack of the Leib Guard Cossacks near Leipzig on 4 October 1813″ (1845) from the collection of the Novocherkassk Museum of Don Cossacks.
