This airmail set of six stamps celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Declaration of British Possession.
The design was taken from a photograph by J.M. Pescott of Melbourne.
It depicts a view of Port Moresby Harbour. The vessel at the wharf is the S.S. Katoomba. In 1888 mails were carried on vessels similar to the sailing cutter depicted in the lower left corner.
