India Post issued a Miniature sheet on first official visit of the Japanese Emperor and Empress to India on 5th December 2013. The Miniature sheet in the denomination of Rs.
20 features Qutub Minar and the Tokyo Tower. It is a rare occasion in Indian Philatelic History when a postage stamp has been released to commemorate the visit of a dignitary.
In his first visit to any South Asian country after taking over the throne in 1990, Japan’s Emperor Akihito and his wife Empress Michiko arrived in Delhi on Saturday.
The royal couple, who had visited India in early 1960s as crown prince and princess, were received by Prime Minister Manmohan Singhand and his wife Gursharan Kaur on the airport tarmac in New Delhi.
The Japanese royal couple, on a six-day visit, are accompanied by a delegation of 50 including former Japanese prime minister Yoshiro Mori.
