The British Caribbean dollar had been adopted in Antigua in 1951, but King george VI had died before a decimal definive series ould be prepared. The same designs were used for a series portraying Queen Elizabeth, issued in November 1953.
A design showing a Martello tower was added to the range, for the 8 and 48c. denominations.
The series was recess-printed by waterlow and Sons until 1961, and by De La Rue from then until 1966.
The earlier printings are indistinguishable, except by the marginal imprints, but stamps printed in 1963-65 were on the new Black CA watermarked paper.
