The first stamps of the united kingdom of Italy consisted of the series of Sardinia with perforations added.
Matraire of Turin also produced a distinctive 15c. stamp, the first designed specifically for the new kingdom, hence the inscription FRANCO BOLLO ITALIANO (Italian Postage Stamp).
The stamp was lithographed pending receipt of a supply of stamps printed by De La Rue. Two versions of the stamp exist. The first ‘C’ in the bottom inscription is almost closed, while in the second the ‘C’ is open and the line below ‘Q’ of QUINDICI is broken.
I have one of these stamps in my collection and have no idea of the value. It is at you pages entitled Stamps of Italy: The First Issues (1862). It looks like the second version because my “C” is open. viz.15 c quindici italiano. I also have one other stamp with it. It is a darker blue with out a picture and it has an impression type picture (white on white) so is raised with the same impression
as the first picture on this page. It has no peforation and “C. POSTE 15” on the top of the stamp. It states “Franco” & “Bollo” on the sides with the top of the lettering going outward. Also a little white is showing between the “E” on POSTE and the 15 at top. Plus the C on the top line looks like the moon on a out house. I think the blue ink that was to cover the white stamp did not cover it
as it should. Do you have a picture of that stamp on line to see how close it should look?
Hi there, I have one stamp color yellow-orange look like the same on the 1st picture but it says C Poste 80 and at the bottom it says C. Ottanta. I am not sure if its forged or real. Have a great day!
