In typographic printing, moulds are struck from the die in lead, gutta-percha, or wax. If a slight jump or shift occurs in the striking, a thickening or partial doubling of the design may occur, and may be reproduced on the printing plate. It can also occur in recess-printed stamps where the plates have been made by electrotyping.
