Given the cost of bananas in Australia at present, I was fascinated by this recently acquired Jamaican postcard.

It was written in early 1925 and addressed to a young man in New Zealand. It bears an interesting slogan: COME TO JAMAICA: THE IDEAL TOURIST RESORT.

The text reads as follows:

“Arrived here this morning We are surrounded at the present with the natives who want to escort us & show us the sights of the town. It is beautiful from the ship but the town seems very unfinished Has not been properly built since the earthquake*. Saw a shark in the harbour this morning.
Love to all, Bell”
