Prince Nikita, who governed Montenegro, as if were his private estate, was forced to grant a constitution in 1905.

The definitive stamps of 1902 were overprinted in English and Serb to celebrate the occasion. Numerous errors and misspellings are to be found in these overprints.

In addition the 25 heller stamp, intended for acknowledgement of receipt was overprinted. Montenegro was the only European country to issue stamps for this purpose. Note the initials A R in the Roman alphabet, denoting this service.
