Adhesive stamps were adopted by the Philippine Islands in February 1854.
The stamps were printed in Manila from locally engraved plates. All stamps up to 1874 portrayed Queen Isabella II of Spain and, as in the mother country, new designs were introduced at frequent intervals. None of the stamps bore the name of the islands.
This is my first time to browse your page, philatelicdatabase. I was so happy to encounter our own country,Philippines was featured and alas find the earliest issuance of stamps during the Spanish colonization. So very informative and historical on philately. My kudos to your webpage. Thanks.
