A true double transfer is rare in stamp lithography, but apparent or partial doubling of the image on the stone may occur through unskilful handling of the transfers, allowing them to touch the sensitive surface before they are in position; or neglect to clean off a previous image; or through the lines of a design “spreading” on the stone as it is liable to do after wear.
A double transfer in steel-plate printing is referred to as a Re-entry.
