Monaco Post has unveiled two stamps that commemorate two notable Italian opera singers: Francesco Tamagno and Adelina Pati.
The set of stamps has been already designed and are to be put on sale on the 10th of September.
Francesco Tamagno
Francesco Tamagno (1850–1905) was an Italian opera tenor who made his mark on musical history by creating the role of Otello in 1887, in Giuseppe Verdi’s masterpiece of the same name. His tremendously powerful voice and vigorous and precise phrasing made him the greatest tenor ever to sing Verdi and one of the best lyrical artists of the end of the nineteenth century. Francesco Tamagno often performed at the Monte-Carlo Opera.
Adelina Patti
Adelina Patti is the Italian singer born in Madrid in 1843 who began her career at the age of 16 at the New York Academy of Music in the title role of Gaetano Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor. In 1862, her performance of the same role at the Italian Theatre in Paris endeared her to French audiences. Her incomparable technique enabled her to tackle the biggest roles in Italian and French opera. The stamp depicts “La Patti” – like many great divas, she was known by her nickname – in Aida.
