Latvia Breast cancer awareness 2013


October is the international Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so Latvijas Pasts as a socially responsible company has released a special stamp to focus attention on women’s health.
On October 30 at 10 AM in post office Sakta, with participation of the minister of health Ingrīda Circene, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport Dins Merirands, Member of the Board of Latvijas Pasts Arnis Gulbis and Roche Latvijarepresentative Jānis Siliņš, Latvijas Pasts will hold the first day ceremony for the new stamp Breast cancer diagnostics.
The first day cancellation event for the new stamp in post office Sakta, 32 Brīvības Boulevard, Riga, will take place throughout the day – from 7:30 AM to 7 PM.
The pink ribbon depicted in the stamp Breast cancer diagnostics shows understanding, solidarity and support to people affected by breast cancer; the symbol was created in the beginning of the 1990s in the United States. The stamp was designed by artist Ģirts Grīva, and its print run is 1,500,000. The denomination of the stamp is LVL 0.04 and EUR0.06.
The stamp has been created in collaboration with the Latvian branch of Swiss health care company Roche in order to increase public awareness of breast cancer and the need for regular health checkups.
October is marked in the world as the breast cancer awareness month, when various organizations and companies, including Latvijas Pasts, promote public awareness and understanding of breast cancer prevention, the importance of early discovery and the possibilities of receiving high quality treatment and rehabilitation for cancer patients. In Latvia, breast cancer is among the most widespread oncologic diseases and causes of death for women. Early discovery plays an important role in the successful treatment of oncologic diseases.
